Early Foundations
1846
Administrative records for resource management in Hawai‘i date back to the mid-1800s, with preserved Board minutes from 1895 onward.
Queen Lili‘uokalani enacted the first conservation laws prohibiting the use of explosives for fishing, establishing a foundation for aquatic resource protection.
Territorial Era
1908
The Territorial Conservation Commission was created to assess Hawai‘i’s natural resources.
1917
